Green building
The Office of Campus Sustainability has teamed with Design and Construction Services to create a subset of comprehensive and environmentally-friendly guidelines within our Design and Construction Standards. These guidelines, called the Sustainability Directive, set regulations for future building construction on Wayne State's campus, as well and requirements for any renovations made on existing facilities.
This guideline utilizes the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) scorecard framework to help create an environmentally friendly urban campus. These guidelines include efforts to reduce the urban heat-island effect with green roofs by introducing green infrastructure to help with stormwater management, and reducing light pollution during and after construction.
