Earth Month

Be sure to check back in early 2024 for the third annual celebration of Earth Month!

Hosted by the Office of Campus Sustainability, Department of Environmental Science and Geology, President's Standing Committee on Environmental Initiatives, T-RUST, and Plastic Oceans International, Earth Month happens in April and is a month of activities and activism that prompts deeper conversations around sustainability and environmentalism in everyday life.

All events are free and open to the greater Detroit and Wayne State community.

Earth Month 2023 - Schedule:

April 3rd - 2:00pm - 3:30pm

  • Sustainable Scavenger Hunt
  • Looking for treasure?  Join us to search for sustainable treasures on WSU's campus!  WSU is filled with so many sustainable treasures just waiting to be found, all participants will receive a prize after completing the scavenger hunt.

April 8th - 11:00am - 1:30pm

  • Canvassing with Green Living Science to sign Detroit resident's up for free curbside recycling bins.

  • Arts & Crafts with Warrior Sustainability 
  • Take a break from studying to de-stress sustainably! We will have all the supplies you need to paint flower pots, press leaves and flowers, and make a bag out of plastic bags!

  • Field Day with Warrior Sustainability 
  • Spring is here!  Come and have a field day with the Green Warriors.  We will have cornhole, spikeball, giant chess, and chalk!  Bring your compost, recyclables, and a friend!

  • 2023-2028 Sustainability Strategic Plan Launch Party
  • The President's Standing Committee on Environmental Initiatives and the Office of Campus Sustainability are proud to announce the launch of the 2023-2028 Sustainability Strategic Plan. To create the University's guiding document on sustainability and environmental initiatives on and around WSU's main campus we gathered faculty, staff, students, community members, and industry experts to outline comprehensive and achievable objectives and action items.  This plan includes action items focused on the following areas: environmental justice, carbon reduction, built environment, water quality and quantity, energy, transportation and mobility, urban biodiversity, sustainable food practices, waste reduction, and sustainability in academia.

  • Let's gather as Earth-minded friends (new & old) to celebrate Earth Day by viewing and reflecting on a selection of short films on various sustainability topics.

April 22nd - HAPPY EARTH DAY! Go out and get involved in your community!

April 28th - 10:00am - 12:30pm

  • Volunteer Opportunity - Happy Arbor Day!
  • WSU recently received the designation of Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.  Wayne State University is one of ten universities in Michigan to receive this designation and one of 411 campuses in the United States.  To celebrate this accomplishment and Arbor Day we will be planting trees on campus!
